“Carousel” / “merry-go -round

Technique: Oil on Canvas
Dimension: 80 x 90 cm

Carousel represents myself relieving my childhood memories. The overall mood and tone of the painting represents childish joy and dream-alike state of mind. The idea of going around and around represents a circular logic, a feeling of getting trap or getting nowhere, which expresses my feeling as a high school senior towards stress, fear of rejection, change and curiosity of the unknown future. This piece is inspired by my sister. Every time I look at her goofing around having fun playing in the playground, I think of myself when I was younger and do not need to be feeling stressful and scare like I’m now. The big sister’s shadow, is a context indicator that the girl in the picture and the shadow’s owner is a different person. The little girl is my younger sister and the shadow is me. However, in the future one day my sister is going to have to experience these feelings just like me. It goes round and round like a cycle, like a carousel.

“The fear”

Technique: Color pencil on paper

Dimension: 59.4 x 84.1 cm

The fear to take a new step, the fear to face failure, the fear of the unknown and the fear of disappointment. At this point of my life, I’ve experienced all of these feelings but I created this artwork to give my self confident that a path to success is not always strewn with rose petals. In fact, the path to success in reality is full of rose thorns. This artwork reminds me that taking slow but strong steps at the time is better but it is still almost impossible not to face any obstacles in life. In my art, even though broken objects symbolise the fear of failure and disappointment. Notice that all of these objects are actually some very useful objects but they’re all broken. However, some of them can definitely be fixed symbolising that these fears can be used as a good life lesson in the future.

My little sweet paradise

Technique: Illustration, Pen and Copic Markers

Dimensions: 26 x 28 cm

This illustration is about how I sometimes, lose yourself my self  in a world of creativity. It is fun but sometimes I use it to cope/shut down/ escape from the real world. It is one of the drawings from my collection of “My little sweet paradise” consisting three piece of illustrations which depicts a world full of something we normally consume becoming alive.

The Coffee Pool

Its getting cold and chilly outside during winter and it seems like these tiny little humans are having fun. They are Floating above the warm coffee surface lying happily on top of of the sweet and tender marshmallows. Wondering what the water taste like because it is definitely better than chlorine.

Rainbow Hikers

Its a dazzling cherry day, the whip cream clouds on the sky are soft and puffy. It’s a perfect day for hiking. Little tiny rainbow citizens gathered together and hike to top to witness the cherry sun, rise and shine.

“Things we forget”

Techniques: Fabric markers on canvas.

Dimension: 90 x 100 cm

This art piece is inspired by Carnovsky, ongoing series entitled “RGB” , a collection of incredible artworks that completely transform when viewed through different coloured filters. In Carnovsky’s artworks, animals are quite a bold and reminiscent subject. For my artwork, the theme is pop culture. The concept of art is also inspired when Planking, Gangnam Styles, Harlem Shake, Ice Bucket challenge was a big thing. They all come from different places around the globe but one thing they have in common is that it spread around the world very fast and disappeared very fast as well. This shows that human are overly obsessed over new things and get bored very easily. When new innovations are invented people start to forget the old things. People follow trends to fit into social comfort zone, an attempt of social acceptance to avoid being called different and old fashioned. I’m forced to follow the pop culture trend even though that I know soon they will be forgotten and disappear.

When it is look through different color filtered lens, image subject changes.
